I've noticed a few flow state moments where there's just an endless investigation of the keyboard for over an hour. I'm feeling more and more liberated, and also more intelligent in how to combine everything into something that could be performed on stage. I recently played at a café, and it went really good. Singing and playing at the same time was still challenging while doing tremolo patterning, but it felt like progress. What I really love is the structure within freedom. There are methodical rhythmic blocks to install, but still a lot of freedom, liberation, and expression inside of it. It honestly feels like I'm learning a whole new way, and realizing the way forward is much more available to me than I previously thought.

I had been doing another piano school for a year, but I still couldn't really play anything beyond simple children's stuff. Honestly, I'm glad you started making these videos, because otherwise I probably would have put the piano away. I still remember the first video I saw from you. I was really impressed. I immediately thought, 'No, I need to learn from this guy.' What really clicked for me was how simple and practical the approach felt. In just a few months, using only a handful of rhythms, I started feeling like I could play along with almost any song. That's when it hit me: this is the key. One of my favorite moments was when my daughter heard me improvising. She was genuinely impressed and said, 'My pa, you did it right.' We were all enjoying the music together, and I remember thinking, man, this is amazing. I'm really happy with it.

Having worked through some of Koen's guidance and joined in with the community I felt a lot more at ease with the piano keyboard and decided to work with him directly... and I'm so pleased I did because there has been a step change in my abilities at the piano; it's not magic and I obviously had to implement the direction that his coaching provided but when I did it was simpler than all previous attempts. I was listening to the radio and I could identify the key of the song, and just start playing along. That had never happened before. Not with any app, not with any tutorial. I had a breakthrough moment where this gave me "actual freedom." The simplification of inversions was extremely helpful, it made everything feel natural.

I like the way that you presented these basic rules and for me as an engineer, they make a lot of sense, because it fits my previous knowledge. I really like the concept of stable notes. Also, I'm not thinking a lot anymore. My left hand is now more fluid, and now it's getting better. Before we had these classes, I was feeling very boring, but now seeing you play and talking about fluency and getting this organic thing, that's what worked for me. I'm very excited about the way that I'm progressing.

There was always a part of me that wanted to create my own music and just be able to play freely. I was just playing Chopin and hard stuff, but I'm starting to realize how important chords and inversions are for each key, and how much they help with playing fluidly and moving through key changes without really thinking. It's helping me express more in the moment what I actually feel. What really helps me is the map. Honestly, it's like the best thing ever.

I've watched a lot of piano tutorials from channels like Pianote and others. Often they say, 'you just do this,' but I think they sometimes forget what feels easy to them after doing it for years. It may look simple when they play it, but there's still a gap for the learner. What I appreciate about your teaching is that you actually slow things down and explain the process step by step. You don't just say 'learn it in small chunks' and leave it there. You show how to approach it in a practical way. That's the difference for me. You're helping fill in the gap between seeing something and truly understanding how to do it.

I think the pace is really good. I only practice around 10 minutes a day, but I'm practicing regularly, and things seem to come back pretty quickly even when I think I've forgotten them. One thing I've really noticed is that my hand independence feels much better than ever before. The whole question and answer concept was also really helpful for me. Thinking about music in that more conceptual way helped a lot. I also started noticing things like resolution and dynamics more deeply. That was a massive shift for me. I'm just really happy that I'm able to do this now. Suddenly I could actually sit down and play in a way that felt musical.

The "stable and unstable notes" exercise was the core tool that "really, really made a difference" in my playing. I definitely enjoyed the exercises. That whole exercise really made a difference and helped me see the notes that are in there much more clearly. It's also clearing up a lot of things for me, especially how to incorporate inversions together with the melody. I had been trying to figure that out for a while. I love the ostinato so much because it feels like an opportunity to really bring out emotion. And having more chords instead of just the regular four makes everything more interesting and a lot more fun.
